B. Overview
The Higher Diploma in Business and Management will help students to develop managerial skills in confronting economic uncertainties, correlating rising costs of managing business and technological advancement, as well as preserving values in a highly competitive environment.

The course aims to:

a. Course Outline
The course consists of 5 modules:
- Introduction to Statistics
- Entrepreneurship
- Organizational Behaviour
- Leadership
- Management Psychology
Introduction to Statistics
This module aims to equip students with a basic knowledge and understanding of business statistics. Statistics is a mathematical science including methods of collecting, organizing and analyzing data is such a way that meaningful conclusions can be drawn from them. In general, its investigations and analyses fall into 2 broad categories called descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics deals with the processing of data without attempting to draw any influences from it. The data presented in the form of tables and graphs. The characteristics of the data are described in simple terms. Events that are dealt with include everyday happenings such as goods, business, incomes, epidemics, accidents, sports, data
and population data. Influential statistics is a scientific discipline that uses mathematical tools to make forecasts and projections by analyzing the given data. This is of use to people employed is such fields as economics, biology, the social sciences. Business and communication.
Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurs are the creators and builders of new ventures that are not only fulfil their own drams, bring them huge fortune but also make a strong impact on the society and improve the lives of people.
Upon successful completion of the module, you would have a good understanding of entrepreneurship, the issues encountered on the entrepreneurial journey, and most importantly, how you can become an entrepreneur yourself.
Specially, the course covers aspects of accounting and finance essential for entrepreneurial venture, basic concepts on commercialization of technology, management of intellectual property and entry and exit strategies.
Organizational Behaviour
Organizational behaviour (OB) is “the study of human behaviour in organizational settings, the interface between human behaviour and the organization, and the organization itself”. OB research can be categorized in at least 3 ways, including the study of:
- Individuals in organization (micro-level)
- Work groups (Meso-level)
- How organizations behave (macro-level)
Upon completion of the module, students will have a better idea how to work along with their fellow colleague and form a strong team.
Leadership
Leadership development entails nurturing, encouraging, incubating, and mentoring prospective leaders. Leadership skill training provides the essential skills that are required to successfully lead any team. Key characteristics that are essential in any outstanding leader are maintaining effective communication, motivating team members, adapting to changing environments, delegating tasks in an appropriate manner, transparency and honesty, confidence, and a positive attitude.
Management psychology
Management psychology from many perspectives has long been regarded as an art for one to gain insight of the science. It is a young, human-oriented discipline recently adopted in management science by managers for enterprises to support their work. Understanding workplace human psychology and behaviour are key to human resource management in enterprises of sizes which develop human assets as instruments to achieve operation effectiveness and productivity, for economical and behavioral perspectives. Employees learn the practices for self-development as they grow and inspire to become a manager, in their workplaces.
The module aims to provide learners with adequate knowledge and skills of workplace psychology, develop understanding of organizational behaviors applicable to workplaces. It prepares them in leading and managing skills for team management.

- Progression Pathway
Student who successfully completed the Higher Diploma in Business and Management may wish to progress to Post-Graduate Diploma in Management and Leadership or OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership offered by Exerceo Business International College.
E. Entry Requirements
Age: At least 18 years old
Academic: A diploma in any discipline or 2 passes at GCE ‘A’ Level or Completion of Senior High School or Equivalent
If the above MER is not met, then mature candidate must be 21 years old with 5
years working experience.
Language Proficiency: At least a C6 in Chinese at GCE ‘O’ Level or High School or equivalent
