B. Overview
According to the Preschool’s requirements for “Kindergarten Education Work”,
combined with the physiological characteristics of children’s growth and the
educational goals of all-round development, preschool teachers must not only
have good professional ethics, but also have good psychological quality,
intellectual skill quality, scientific and cultural quality, and education and artistic
activity quality.
C. Objective
The Diploma gives the required training for preschool teachers towards good
professional ethics, but also has good psychological quality, intellectual skill
quality, scientific and cultural quality, and education and artistic activity quality.

a. Course Outline
The course consists of 9 modules:
Unit 1 – Basic Quality & Training of Infant and Child Teachers
Unit 2 – Cognitive Development and Education
Unit 3 – Homeland Co-education
Unit 4 – Infant and Child Injury Prevention
Unit 5 – Infant and Child Mental Health
Unit 6 – Infant and Child Motor Development
Unit 7 – Nutrition and Feeding
Unit 8 – Prevention of Infection in Infant and Young Children
Unit 9 – Sleep Management
Module Outlines
Unit 1 – Basic Quality & Training of Infant and Child Teachers
This module will give the required training for preschool teachers
towards good professional ethics, but also have good psychological
quality, intellectual skill quality, scientific and cultural quality, and
education and artistic activity quality.
Unit 2 – Cognitive Development and Education
Cognitive development refers to the relatively long-lasting orderly
changes of various cognitive abilities with age, in addition to the
influence of physiological maturity, the various information and
educational activities provided in the growth environment can promote
cognitive development. Therefore, it is necessary for early education
and preschool education professionals to understand and master the
stage characteristics, influencing factors and educational strategies of
various cognitive development of young children during the period of
rapid development of 0-3 years old.
Unit 3 – Homeland Co-education
“Home” is the living environment that children face from birth and may
follow them for life, and “kindergarten” is a conscious, prepared, and
professional educational environment that is responsible for by special
personnel. Kindergartens and families have their own advantages and
play different roles, and they must cooperate with each other and
complement each other’s advantages in order to enable children to
develop well.
Unit 4 – Infant and Child Injury Prevention
Injuries are preventable. A person’s injury is not because of “bad luck”,
injuries occur regularly, and the probability of occurrence is different for
everyone. Countless practices and studies have succeeded in reducing
injuries and deaths through the adoption of science-based preventive
measures. The injury is not an accident. Adjust the perspective of injury
problems: go beyond the perspective of the injured person, from a
comprehensive analysis of injury events, the vast majority of injuries
have clear risk factors that can be intervened.
Unit 5 – Infant and Child Mental Health
Through the observation of infants and young children, the results of
evaluating their mental health are more realistic than other types of
evaluation. When observing children, teachers see their development
in natural and real situations. Through observation, teachers can know
what children need and which areas of child development need special
attention, so that they can design the curriculum based on these
developmental needs
Unit 6 – Infant and Child Motor Development
The development of movement must be based on the perception of
food in the environment to stimulate action and use perception to
adjust movement. Exercise itself is not a psychological problem, but it
is inseparable from psychological development. Psychological
development is inseparable from actions and activities.
Unit 7 – Nutrition and Feeding
Nutrition and feeding refers to adequate nutrition and appropriate
feeding care. This can meet the needs of infants’ physical growth and
functional (such as immunity) maturation and rapid brain development,
and is the most effective measure to promote children’s health and
ensure optimal potential development.
Unit 8 – Prevention of Infection in Infant and Young Children
Learn about childcare services that provide simple and effective ways
for everyone in the childcare center to help limit the spread of diseases
and infectious diseases in the childcare center.
Unit 9 – Sleep Management
It is necessary to understand what changes in the circadian rhythm will
occur in different periods of the child, and from infancy, we should
consciously cultivate the child’s life rules, so as to adjust the child’s
biological clock rhythm, let the child establish the correct conditioned
reflex, and develop good living habits.

p. Progression Pathway
Students who successfully completed the Diploma in Infant and Child Psychology (Mandarin) (E-Learning) may wish to pursue further higher level courses in Psychology available in the Education Industry.
E. Entry Requirements
At least 16 years old with 3 passes at GCE “O” Levels or Completion
of High School or Equivalent
For mature candidates, at least 30 years old with 8 years of working experience.
Language Proficiency: Pass in Chinese at C6 Level or High School or Equivalent.
